The first day I was there, a crew of guys arrived to replace part of the roof on the kitchen building. Because they do not want to clear away the canopy, when it rains (which is frequently) the palm palapa roof is not getting to dry out, so part of it got rotted. Usually lasting at least ten years, these roofs are watertight and bugproof. But demolition commenced and took about one hour, and the new palm fronds are being lifted into place for the replacement roof.
